Facebook alerts authorities to suspect child sex abuser.
The suspect had been sending money to the girl (which was being collected at Western Union by her family) in exchange for nude pornographic photos of her. Facebook alerted the authorities in the US and Australia who in turn informed Philippine law enforcement.
"It's a protocol of Facebook to monitor all the chat logs and they came upon the account of this minor chatting with an Australian national. The victim has long been providing explicit images," said Chief Superintendent Rosauro Acio, head of the Philippine National Police.
Attempted personal contact
Anti child pornography operatives in the police force traced the victim and her family through Facebook and and detained the suspect as he attempted to make personal contact with the girl. He had promised payment in exchange for making a pornographic film of her.
